Don't
Give Up!
“After I quit smoking I used the money that I saved from
cigarettes to celebrate my success with friends; next year I will
spend the cigarette money I saved to buy goods”, says Captain
Nget Ya, who has recently quit smoking during ADRA’s stop
smoking class held at the Military Border Head office.
Captain Nget Ya started smoking heavily –consuming one to
one and a half packets a day- during the Pol Pot regime. Even though
he was a heavy smoker Captain Nget Ya tried to quit smoking many
times during the past five years. However he relapsed each time,
until he attended the
Khmer Quit Now! stop smoking class.
Captain Nget Ya chose some strategies presented in the class to
help him quit. He declared to friends and family that he was going
to quit smoking; he noted the quit day in his notebook and consistently
told others how many days had been free smoke from smoking during
the first year.
Captain Nget Ya’s family is happy that there is no more smoke
in the house and that their father and husband is now committed
to a smoke-free life.
