Smoke Free Cambodian Communities
(SFCC)
Project Goals
To work with Buddhist monks and others
to create a sustainable tobacco control movement within Cambodian
communities that promotes, supports and implements tobacco free
lives and policies.
To build on the partnerships established
through ADRA’s TOH program, including the SFBM project,
to engage a wider variety and number of influential partners in
tobacco control at local and central level.
Project Objectives
To increase Buddhist Monks’ and community action to minimize
tobacco use, this project aims to:
Actively engage government and NGO partners in tobacco
control activities and discussions about tobacco control policy
that will complement the ADRA TOH program and the National Action
Plan for Tobacco Control.
Cooperate with the Ministry of Cults and Religion, Ministry
of Health and influential Buddhist monks to apply Buddhist precepts
to tobacco control.
Increase awareness among monks and their communities throughout
Cambodia of the harmful effects of tobacco and the benefits of
smoke-free policies.
Increase the spread of smoking cessation interventions,
especially via trained, non-smoking monks, that allows them to
act as positive role models and support the implementation of
smoke free policies.
